What is Civic Engagement?
Civic Engagement involves any individual or collective action designed to identify and address issues of public concern. Civic engagement can take many forms, from individual voluntarism to organizational involvement to electoral participation.
It calls us to have direct participation in spaces that affect our communities and our experiences. These issue areas can be political or apolitical, and the amount of involvement may differ in each method. Some examples of civic engagement include registering to vote, hosting a rally or demonstration, or joining a community working group.
Civic engagement plays a critical role in improving our quality of life and depends on the voices of the community. By engaging in civic activities, we ensure that our voices are heard and that we participate in the democratic process.
PANA utilizes integrated voter engagement as a strategy in our research, leadership development, and community organizing programs. We also have a regional approach to civic engagement during and in between elections to build a visible and powerful refugee electorate.
