Civic Engagement Organizer

PANA is hiring an Organizer who will utilize a variety of strategies and hold multiple responsibilities including organizing Black, Arab, Muslim, Middle Eastern, South Asian (BAMEMSA) communities around key civic engagement campaigns, running phone banking programs, and building out our base. S/he will provide ongoing coaching, supervision and support to civic engagement teams and develop the leadership of community members to engage and advance campaign goals. The Civic Engagement Organizer will also be solely responsible for the efficacy and growth of PANA’s non-partisan voter engagement efforts.

This position will report to and work closely with the Director of Organizing and Campaigns to ensure that campaign and organizing strategies are in line with organizational messaging, goals, and obligations to its communities. 


Responsibilities

  • Foster relationships with organizations locally working on advancing immigrants rights and refugee issues.

  • Train and support the development of temporary staff and supervise the civic engagement teams.

  • Provide daily supervision to civic engagement teams and temporary workers through individual and group meetings, regular communication, shadowing, coaching, and intentional training.

  • Build and strengthen relationships with local lawmakers and stakeholders.

  • Support Steering Committee through turning members out for meetings and events, help facilitate meetings and provide strategic guidance and support. 

  • Deepen and grow our base through weekly 1:1 meetings with community members.

  • Responsible for turning out community members to actions and community events including  600 community members to our annual Human Rights Day of Action.  

  • Oversee the ongoing facilitation and strategic planning updates of civic engagement campaign plans at monthly steering committee meetings.

  • Responsible for the growth of the organization’s voter engagement campaigns, which includes ensuring ample staff and volunteer resources are dedicated to sufficiently staff campaign efforts, and that turf is selected strategically.

  • Identify, build relationships and act as a liaison to community groups and partnering organizations. Responsible for developing campaign to complete 500 voter registration cards.

  • Work to ensure that civic engagement data is quickly transferred into databases.

  • Provide monthly written reports to the Executive Director on progress made towards goals.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Degree in Community Development, Community Organizing, Social Work, Political Science, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Women’s Studies, Ethnic Studies, Sociology, Community Psychology, or related field required. 

  • A minimum of one to three years of experience in community organizing working with and managing coalitions in a collaborative context with formal training in either conflict organizing or consensus organizing theories.

  • Demonstrated experience organizing or engaging with refugee and/or immigrant communities.

  • Experience with policy advocacy, including campaign planning, research, analysis and report writing.

  • Demonstrate abilities to facilitate 1:1 meetings with community members and engage them into a campaign.

  • Demonstrated commitment to refugee and immigrant communities.

  • Excellent oral and written skills.

  • Extremely organized with close attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively in a rapidly changing environment. 

  • Ability to speak Arabic, Karen, Urdu, Farsi, Kurdish, Vietnamese, Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, or Swahili strongly preferred. 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and sophisticated use of technology.
