Mariam Mahmoud

As Political Education Coordinator, Mariam designs curricula according to community organizing needs, supports in leadership development, researches and analyzes data for program strategy and evaluation, and develops creative political education methodologies for trainings.

Prior to joining PANA, Mariam was a Research Assistant in the Urban Planning department at Columbia University, where she pursued a Master’s in Urban Planning. Mariam was born in Cairo, Egypt, navigating the many ways imperialism has spread its arms over her city. Upon graduating high school, she moved to LA for college where she strengthened her understanding of material conditions and interned at the International Rescue Committee, cementing an interest in working towards border justice. Today, her research interests include spatial inequality, militarization, and the manifestation of the right to the city.

In her free time, Mariam enjoys reading, writing, baking, calling family and friends, and spending time with the neighborhood cats.
